“Bringing hope to the abandoned and misplaced”

 WHAT WE DO

“Bringing hope to the abandoned and misplaced” is best way to describe what we aim to do as an organisation. Our time and resources are directed in a way to ensure that this vision becomes a reality. We do this in various ways and because of the vastness of this vision, we rely on people’s time and donations.

Food and clothing

Food is prepared every Wednesday afternoon from 15:30 to 16:00 and then, for the following two hours, we take food out to the people in Melville.  Our intention is not just to give them food, but also to build the relationships with each of them. Growing friendships over time grows trust which is the “gold” of the street. Without trust, plans can be put in place but will have no sustainability on the street.

On Fridays, we continue growing the relationships created and fostered on Wednesdays, with the intention of getting a deeper insight into the environment in which they live and to see life on the street from their perspective. We try to see how individuals are doing. For example, if one of them has been in a fight and needs to be seen more often with more individual attention, Fridays are when give this time. We are, however, not restricted to only Fridays and sometimes spend time with them during the rest of the week and weekends.

We bring clothes along on Wednesdays and Fridays so that if some of the guys need clothes we can provide them with some. These clothes are not just for the people we know well, but is also for  new people we encounter on the streets.

Skills development for self-sustainability

We are in the process of developing a few skills development opportunities that will allow the people we work with to be able to support themselves and in steps, find a better life off the streets. This is not a quick fix, but a work over time. It is a step by step process that will teach things such as inter-personal skills, business acumen, creating a business, and becoming self-sustainable.

Please keep in touch for news on the first of these exciting opportunities. If you would like to know more and are interested in helping out with one of these projects, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
